First Meeting of Lego League
September 16, 2015

The first meeting of FIRST LEGO League took place this week at the Duanesburg Area Community Center. Thirteen students in grades 5-7 came together to meet their mentors and coaches, talk about the FIRST LEGO League Core Values and find out about this year's challenge.
After talking about the season and the parts of the challenge, students got busy building the components or "missions" for the FLL challenge mat. Once the mission components are complete, students will begin designing and building LEGO MINDSTORMS® robots to complete them. Missions require that robots navigate, capture, transport, or deliver objects on the printed mission mat.
Througout the season, the two teams will learn more about the science behind this years challenge theme - "Trash Trek." Students will be encouraged to use their creativity to design a solution to a real-world problem regarding the way people handle trash. At the end of the season, their robots will compete regionally, and they will have an opportunity to share their solution to the trash problem they've identified.
We're looking forward to a great season!
