Position: Mentor
Description:
This position supports the Schoharie Mohawk Initiative for Science and Technology (SMIST) science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs for children in the Schoharie and Mohawk regions throughout the year. Programs we offer seek to increase interest in STEM and help children develop skills that would benefit their future. Mentors will serve as role models as they interact with small groups of students. Mentors will answer questions, offer guidance, and empower the participants throughout the program.
Location:
SMIST offers several programs in the Duanesburg and Schoharie areas throughout the year. Our programs draw students from as far away as Albany, Cobleskill and Amsterdam.
Qualifications:

Interest in working with youth who have a strong desire to explore activities in science, technology, engineering and math.

Past experience working with youth could only help.

Will be responsible, organized, patient, enthusiastic, self-controlled, & dependable.

Will relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.

Will have demonstrated knowledge, experience and skills in STEM related activities.

Applicants may be subject to a background check in order to ensure the safety of our participants.
Time Commitment:
Mentors working with SMIST typically commit to 2-4 hours per week to support our STEM programs.
